G.S.K.A. Information

The Gilbert Shotokan Karata Academy was founded in 1993 by Sensei Howie Harvey.

The G.S.K.A. was at first affiliated with the Japanese Karate Association. (JKA) After a period of Independent affiliation the G.S.K.A. has been a proud affiliate member of the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association (FSKA) since 2003.

Sensei Gehrig Justice (2nd Dan) is the current Chief Instructor of the G.S.K.A. and oversees all day to day instruction.

The G.S.K.A. teaches traditional Shotokan Karate as developed by Gichin Funakoshi. The G.S.K.A. teaches the three basic aspects to training as laid out by Master Funakoshi: Kihon, Kata and Kumite. A strong emphasis is also placed on both the Dojo and Niju Kun as the basis of the G.S.K.A. syllabus.

The G.S.K.A. is currently located in Iaeger, WV USA

Shotokan Karate

*Sensei Justice began Training in February of 1993 at the Gilbert Shotokan Karate Academy under Sensei Howie Harvey.

*May 6th 1996 Sensei Justice advanced to the Karate-Do rank of Shodan (First Degree Black Belt) under Sensei Harvey.

*October 17th 1997 Sensei Justice advanced tot he Karate-Do rank of Nidan (Second Degree Black Belt) under Sensei Harvey

*Summer of 1998 Sensei Harvey listed Sensei Justice as an Assistant Instructor for the Gilbert Shotokan Karate Academy.

*Summer of 2000 Sensei Harvey moved to North Carolina leaving the GSKA under the instruction of Sensei Justice.

*April 2003 the GSKA became an Affiliate member of the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association.

*2003 Sensei Justice started training under and assisting Larry Trogdon of the Trogden Shotokan Karate Club in Man West Virginia.
 
*March 2006 Sensei Justice took back control of the GSKA.

Other Training

American TAO Karate

*September of 1996 while in college Sensei Justice studied under Master Geary Kanode in a mixed, Martial Art called American TAO Karate.

*The Fall of 1997 Sensei Justice became a Co-Instructor with Mater Kanode at the Concord Church Fitness Center Karate Club located in Athens,West Virginia.

*July 12th of 1999 Sensei Justice advanced to the Rank of Shodan (First Degree Black Belt), in the art of American TAO Karate.
