G.S.K.A. Information

The Gilbert Shotokan Karata Academy was founded in 1993 by Sensei Howie Harvey.

The G.S.K.A. was at first affiliated with the Japanese Karate Association. (JKA) After a period of Independent affiliation the G.S.K.A. has been a proud affiliate member of the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association (FSKA) since 2003.

Sensei Gehrig Justice (2nd Dan) is the current Chief Instructor of the G.S.K.A. and oversees all day to day instruction.

The G.S.K.A. teaches traditional Shotokan Karate as developed by Gichin Funakoshi. The G.S.K.A. teaches the three basic aspects to training as laid out by Master Funakoshi: Kihon, Kata and Kumite. A strong emphasis is also placed on both the Dojo and Niju Kun as the basis of the G.S.K.A. syllabus.

The G.S.K.A. is currently located in Iaeger, WV USA

2011 America's Cup Louisville Ky.

The 2nd Annuael America's Cup was held at the Crown Plaza Airport Hotel in Lousiville Ky. Sensei Allen Renfrow of the Budo Traditional Krate Dojo located in Owensboro Ky directed the event.

The Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association held the 2nd Annuael America's Cup in Louisville Ky on Sept. 9th and 10th. The America's Cup included a training clinc conducted by Shihan Kenneth Funakoshi, judges clinc condcuted by Shihan Kenneth Funakoshi and Sensei Allen Renfrow. Followed by a Traditional Shotokan Karate Tournment to be held Satuday which would feature Kata, Team Kata and Sparring Competions.

Sensei Larry Trogdon and Sensei Gehrig Justice both attened and took part in the events on September the 9th 2011.
